Telehealth Counselling for Rural Australians

Counselling Services for Rural or Regional Australians

Living in rural Australia can feel like living in a lighthouse: very isolated, sometimes lonely and far away from access to essential services, especially when things aren’t going so well.

The good news is that from November 1st 2017 people in rural and regional Australia will be able to claim a Medicare rebate for online videoconferencing consultations with psychologists who might be thousands of kilometres away.

You can use Skype, FaceTime, Zoom or other video calling from your home for your consultation.

No longer will you have the inconvenience, time and expense of having to travel to larger regional centres or major cities to see a psychologist.

Are you are Eligible?

If you are living in Modified Monash Model regions from four to seven, which cover smaller country towns and remote and very remote locations, then you will be eligible. To find out your eligibility go to:

Reaching out in Tough Times

Rural people can be very stoic. You often do the hard yards alone in the face of the vagaries of the weather, remoteness and the rural economy.

You may be used to keeping your problems to yourself and stoically pushing through tough times as you were taught. You may be embarrassed or feel like a failure or weak to reach out for psychological help.

The good news is that attitudes are changing, and you will not be judged for reaching out, for seeking assistance for tough times.  It can save lives and help you feel better. It’s amazing what a difference just being able to talk with someone who listens and doesn’t judge you can make.

With Skype calls you can see a psychologist from the privacy of your own home or wherever is convenient for you. The counselling sessions are private and confidential.  It is your time for you. It’s not selfish. It’s courageous and about self care.  If you take care of you then it can be easier for those around you too.

No problem is too small or ‘not bad enough’….if it’s bothering you, affecting you, if you are not coping so well…..PLEASE, reach out….and feel the relief from doing so!
